Rope Guidelines & Search Management Challenges

Alistair (Al) has been involved with mountain rescue since the early 1980s and is one of the Team Leaders for Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Organisation. He has been a team and regional training officer and was elected as the National Training Officer for Mountain Rescue England and Wales in 2013.

Al manages the MREW annual Search courses and has been part of the team that revised the MREW Rope Rescue Guidelines.

Al has over 11 years of instructing Search and Rescue professionally and has designed and delivered water, rope, search and incident management courses for voluntary and professional emergency services in the UK and overseas. He is a DEFRA Mod 6 National Flood Rescue Tactical Advisor and has contributed to all versions of the DEFRA Flood Rescue Concept of Operations. He helped to author the UK Lost and Missing Persons Framework, as well as supporting the updates to the US National Fire Protection Agency Standard 1670 (Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents)
