Dr Loel Collins

Training for Competency in Voluntary Organisations

Loel is a Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Coaching and Performance at The University of Central Lancashire. Loel joined the institute after a thirty-year career working in the outdoor sector as a coach and guide.

His current research investigates adaptable performance in high stake situations where adaptation is key and routine fails. His original work examined judgement and decision making in adaptive experts. He is now exploring how adaptability may be explicitly developed to create safe and flexible response capabilities in emergency response. He presentation will focus on his recent practical research and its findings.

Loel comes from an expedition kayaking and canoeing background. Having been on exploratory trips and working across the globe. He has worked extensively in swift-water rescue and remote area first aid training.
