Mike Margenson

Mike is a full time Mountaineering Instructor and the programme operations and safety manager at YMCA National Centre Lakeside. He also a member of BMC legal expert witness register, provider of Mountain Training qualification courses and technical advisor to various outdoor centres.

During nearly 40 years involved in Mountain Rescue he has served as equipment officer and training officer, been representative at IKAR and is presently Vice Chairman Operations Lead. He recently stood down after 26 years as Team Leader of Duddon and Furness team.

Mike’s key achievements include the development and introduction of the MR vacuum mattress, work with Peter Bell and Lyon Equipment on stretchers, development of the first National Rigging for Rescue courses with Kirk Mauther followed by the creation of our first rope rescue guidelines documents. More recently he has been championing our successful Team Peer review program. Mike is presently heading our Heritage project group, and leading on collaboration with the Mountain Heritage Trust.
