There are 47 volunteer mountain rescue teams and eight regional bodies in England and Wales, across eight geographical areas. These areas comprise Lake District, Mid Pennine, North East, Peak District, Peninsula, Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and South Wales. There are also two associate teams, based in south west England.
Mountain Rescue England and Wales is here to help them deliver the best possible care to their casualties. We can’t do that without your support. Thanks to you, we can provide and maintain the highest standards in casualty care, technical rope rescue and swiftwater rescue. And we can provide key items of kit to teams and help keep their vehicles on the road. And thanks to your legacies, we can plan for the future to ensure this valuable community service remains voluntary and free to the casualty. To find out more…

Four days without a call out...
...just four days last year without our volunteer team members recovering climbers from precipitous crags, reuniting lost walkers with their pals and ensuring injured casualties were safely delivered into vital hospital care. How you can support mountain rescue
Organise a fundraising event and you won’t just be raising funds, you’ll be raising awareness of mountain rescue. Whether you’re selling cup cakes or taking on your own personal challenge – just register your intention to raise money for us, then get out there and have fun! And don’t forget to Gift Aid it. Our history
Mountain rescue has a rich and varied history and we've come a long way since the five-barred gates and ad hoc rescue parties of the pre-1930s. To find out more...
